Filling an auto insurance claim is something you never want to have to do, but accidents happen sometimes. By reading this blog we created, you will be prepared in case you are involved in an accident in the future. Lord willing you won't be!

Step 1
Call the police
If you just experienced an auto accident, or your car was vandalized or stolen, you'll want to contact your local police, especially if someone needs medical attention. In cases like these, it is required to have a police report before you can file an auto insurance claim, so you will want to do that first. By calling the police and making a report with them first, you could potentially speed up the insurance claim process.
If your car was damaged from a natural cause like hail or you just hit a deer, it may not be as necessary to file a police report.
Step 2
Document the incident
If you were in an auto accident, you'd want to do a few things.
Take photos of the entire incident! All cars involved, any damage done, license plates of the cars involved, get it all!
Write down all the names of the people involved. Get their full name, number, addresses, and of course their insurance information.
Take photos of any property that may have been affected by the accident.
If you filed a police report, be sure to get a copy for yourself.
If possible, create a small summary of the accident
If there were any witnesses nearby, get their contact information if they are willing. This could help with your insurance claim.
If your car was damaged from other causes, you'll want to do these few things.
Take photos of your car and whatever object or event damaged it if possible.
If anyone else saw the incident take place, ask for their contact information as a witness to your case. This could help with your claim.
If police were involved and you filed a report, be sure to get a copy of the police report
Step 3
Reach out to your insurer
If you were in an accident caused by you, someone else, or by a natural cause and the cost of the damage is more than your deductible, you'll want to file a claim.
You can contact your insurance company directly by finding their claims number online, and sometimes, on your insurance card. If you have insurance through an agency, like ours, you can contact your agency and ask them to file the claim on your behalf!
